Cheetahs return to India after 70-year absence

Eight radio-collared African cheetahs transported from Namibia to India. Animal vanished from India 70 years ago. Some conservationists call it an unrealistic vanity project. It is the culmination of a 13-year effort to restore a species which vanished. India hopes to eventually grow the population to around 40 cats. It has raised questions from scientists who say the government should do more to protect the country’s struggling wildlife. India last year joined a U.N. pledge to conserve 30% of its land and ocean area by 2030.
