Iran protests spread, death toll rises as internet curbed

At least eight people have been killed in Iran since the death of a 22-year-old woman detained by the morality police last week. The protests are the largest since a wave of demonstrations in 2019 over a price rise. Local media and a local government official said four people were killed in the last two days, bringing the total death toll to eight, including a member of the police and a pro-government militia member. The internet shutdown echoed a government move before a crackdown against the 2019 protests, residents said.
