Top U.S. general urges vigilance as Russia weighs Ukraine setbacks

U.S. Army General Mark Milley visited a base in Poland aiding Ukraine’s war effort. Milley: “The war is not going too well for Russia right now. So it’s incumbent upon all of us to maintain high states of readiness” Milley reviewed the base’s air defenses, which include Patriot missile batteries. The rout of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces in northeastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv region a week ago has prompted unusually strong public criticism from Russian military commentators. Putin has brushed off the counter-offensive but said on Friday that Moscow would respond more forcefully if its troops were put under further pressure.
